Keeping Your Energy Strong To Get The Business Done

A question I get from a lot of my clients is, “In running your own business, how do you keep your energy steady and strong so that you can get the tasks done and still feel like you’re having fun?”  Or at least if not fun, that the business stuff feels lighter.

Keeping Your Energies StrongThe answer that to me has several different elements.

The first one is to recognize that our energies are not going to be the same every day.

That’s just the reality. Whether you’re running your own business or not. There’s going to be natural fluctuations in your energies that are often going to correlate to what’s going on in your outer business, but not always. To know that you’re going to have some days where your energy is going to be stronger.  You’re going to have some days where you’re going to feel a little bit blah and lethargic and not quite as motivated.

And to know that it will pass.

So if you’re in a day where you’ve got the blahs, use these other tools that I’m going to share with you and recognize that you’re not going to stay stuck there.

Number two is to use your self care tools to keep you up.

And to me, this is a vital part of the inner game to make your outer game of business successful. These self care tools are going to be different for every one of you, but they are whatever tools you use to start your day so that your energy is steady and strong, that it is the best that it can be.

Likely, if you’re like me, you have a combination of tools that you’re using. For me, using these tools in the morning helps me set the intention of the day, the energy of the day, and is a priority for me. This means I make a commitment to myself to get up early so I can put in the pieces that are important.

You yourself are going to know what are going to be your best self care tools. Whether it be some kind of a meditation practice or a lovely walk outside in that brisk air. It could be an herbal formula that you particularly find helps ground you. Whatever those tools are, using them consistently will help keep your energies more steady.

The third element is to have the right outer support you need so that you don’t feel like you’re having to do it alone.

This could be actually hiring out some virtual support to do part of the tasks for you to lighten your load.

This could be being a part of a mastermind group, either one that you’ve put together or a paid professional one where you have the support to come in and have the space to process whatever might be going on for you. That’s going to help keep you up, hold you accountable, and continue to move you forward.

The last piece is to recognize what the less than optimal energy is telling you.

Sometimes if you are not feeling it, it can be a clue from your inner wisdom that something is out of alignment for you. Think of this as an opportunity for you to check in and say, “Why am I not feeling attracted to this, why am I procrastinating? What is not right here for me?”

Do a little bit of inner processing around that. That might include journaling or talking it out with a coach or your mastermind group.  Figuring out why you’ve got this block, and even better, figuring out what’s going to bring you back into what I call the fun and the flow, is what you want to know.

Oftentimes if I’m in a process where the work I’m doing feels sluggish and feels hard, this is a clue to me that whether it’s the project itself or whether it’s just the day I’m in with the project, I need to switch to something else. So it might be that I set that aside for that day or for part of the day and I go to something that feels lighter, that feels easier, that feels more fun and fluid, and allowing those energetic creative energies to flow more effectively. I do that and then I come back to that project either later in the day or the next day and see where my energies are at.

If day after day I’m finding that that particular piece that I’m trying to do is still having that sluggish energy, that’s usually the clue to me that I need to look deeper at it. That something is out of alignment with me.

Those are the tools that I use and that I recommend with a lot of my clients for those times when you need to have your energy working for you as you’re working on your business.

I know that you’d rather be working in your business with all of your beautiful clients and that’s a huge part of what you do. And if you’re running your own practice, you have to carve out the time to work on your business and to have it feel as light, flowing, fun and easy as possible.
